Teaching Textbooks is an excellent option for homeschool families who don't want to do the "teaching" of math. Teaching Textbooks is a CD or online curriculum where each lesson is taught. There are frequent quizzes and tests and all records are kept and recorded within the software. Teaching Textbooks is for children in 3rd to Pre-Calculus.
Our experience with Teaching Textbooks has been wonderful. I have started all my children at 3rd grade. Though I do recommend anyone starting in 3rd grade makes sure your children know their times tables well before starting. My family has never done the 7th grade year we always skip to Pre-Algebra. My oldest daughter will be starting Pre-Cal this fall. She has also taken her Algebra CLEP test and passed with a great score thanks to this curriculum. I struggle with math and though my husband is great at math (he's an electrical engineer) he doesn't have time to teach separate lessons to our children in math every day. Using Teaching Textbooks means our children can learn through Teaching Textbooks and if they have any follow up questions they can talk with Ben! I've heard Teaching Textbooks get a bad rap occasionally for not being as academically challenging, I personally haven't found this to be true. What I have found is that Teaching Textbooks does not teach everything in the same order as a traditional math curriculum. Therefore, if you switch between curriculums you will feel like it is behind or they didn't learn everything they needed to learn. However, in the long run if you stick with Teaching Textbooks it all balances out and they have a wonderful, well rounded grasp of all the math concepts they will need!
